Akçansa, a joint venture of Sabancı Holding and Heidelberg Materials, has been awarded in the “Green Transformation” category at TİSK’s Common Futures Awards for its Marmara Islands Artificial Reef Project, implemented in cooperation with the Gündoğdu Village Development and Beautification Association of Marmara Island and under the consultancy of Balıkesir University and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.

Within the scope of the TİSK Common Futures Awards program, competing projects were evaluated by a jury comprising representatives from the business community, media, sports, and academia. The evaluation process was further supported by a public vote involving approximately 20,000 participants.

Launched in 2023, Akçansa’s Marmara Islands Artificial Reef Project aims to contribute to the sheltering, feeding, and increased biodiversity of marine life. A total of 280 artificial reefs—160 of which were produced using 3D printing—were placed on the seabed of the Marmara Sea. Over the past two years, these reefs have provided a habitat for 40 different marine species, including 10 fish species.

Commenting on the award, Akçansa General Manager Vecih Yılmaz stated: “Our Marmara Islands Artificial Reef Project is a distinctive initiative that protects the marine ecosystem and contributes to biodiversity. We are very pleased that this scientifically supported project has been deemed worthy of an award in the field of Green Transformation. We would like to thank all our stakeholders and the teams who contributed to the project.”
