Focusing on creating lasting results with its economically, environmentally, and socially responsible industrial ideas with the motto of “sustainable efficiency”, Atlas Copco Group held a “Global Climate Awareness Event” for its 45 thousand employees working worldwide. In the scope of the event, which was held with the presentations of the company’s global senior executives, in particular, Mats Rahmström, Atlas Copco Group CEO, the focus was on climate change and concrete suggestions on what can be done for a low-emission and sustainable future.
Two science-based objectives to slow down climate change
Underlined that they have set two science-based objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement to be part of the solution for a better future, Mats Rahmström, Atlas Copco Group CEO, said, “Our first goal is to reduce CO2 emissions from our operations and the energy we purchase in order to keep the global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5°C. This goal means reducing emissions here by 46 percent until 2030 compared to our 2019 baseline. And we will achieve this primarily by shifting to low-carbon energy in our operations and using low-emission company vehicles. Our second goal is to reduce CO2 emissions from other parts of the value chain outside our direct control in order to keep the global temperature rise below 2°C. And this means reducing emissions by 28 percent until 2030 compared to our 2019 baseline. We will do this primarily by increasing the energy efficiency of our products and designing them to run on electricity.
Rahmström also stated that all Atlas Copco employees have a role to play in this journey, recording that the science-based objectives are reported at the group level and are based on the climate performance of each business area and division.
