The second year of the “Good Bazaars” project, in which the Western Anatolia Group contributed to the development of adequate and balanced eating and regular exercise habits for both adults and adolescents to maintain a quality and healthy lifestyle, was completed. Up to today, more than 30 Bazaars were visited and 41 thousand people were reached in the Aegean region.
The “Good Bazaars” project, which the Group has brought to life since its 50th anniversary, aims to contribute to a healthier and better quality of life for all. “Good Bazaars” team delivered informative publications and presents in April and May to Seferihisar, Bornova and Söke main markets of Aegean region, after the kick off in Bomonti Organic Bazaar this year. The team that met with the locals who came to the bazaar for shopping, conveyed the importance of consuming fresh vegetables and fruit in enough quantities, choosing the right foods when they are in season, through funny and informative chats with the bazaar visitors.
We create awareness for a healthy life style
Feyyaz Ünal, Member of the Executive Committee of the Western Anatolia Group expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to get in touch with the public one on one through an awareness campaign about healthy lifestyles, which is a subject gaining more importance day by day and added that;
“We have visited more than 30 bazaars in the Aegean region for two years with our Good Bazaars team. In the markets we went to, the local tradesmen, as well as the local residents, showed interest in welcoming us with great hospitality. In the markets we revisited the second year, the tradesmen and locals remembered us, and expressed their happiness about seeing us again. “
Unal also said that they have achieved significant outputs from the public interviews they have made during the bazaar visits. “In this year’s public interviews that we included in “Good Bazaars” we wanted to keep the pulse of the people by asking questions about the traditional neighborhood bazaars and healthy living. In interviews, we got the feedback that people are satisfied with shopping in the neighborhood bazaars in order not to lose old traditions and to find fresher products, but also we found out that there are some negative feedback as well such as; locals find the neighborhood bazaars not as cheap as their old counterparts.”
In addition, we were very happy to see from their participations that people started to pay more attention to healthy eating. Because, in public interviews, we saw that people are inadequate in putting into practice what they know even though they are knowledgeable about healthy nutrition. At this point we are very happy to have direct contact with the public during bazaar visits and to create awareness of healthy living, which is the primary goal of the “Good Bazaars” project.
“Tomato, Pepper, Eggplant” reached 24.500 thousand people young and old.
The “Good Bazaars” project aims to contribute to the development of adequate and balanced nutrition habits not only for adults but also for children in development stages, with the awareness that childhood is of critical importance for development and mental activity. In this respect, the healthy nutrition book “Tomato Pepper Eggplant” prepared by the relevant experts on the subject aims to contribute to the children acquiring the correct nutrition habits while exploring the benefits of basic foods and consuming home cooking. In the bazaars visited, “Tomato, Pepper, Eggplant” which attracted great interest by the families as well as children reached 24,500 thousand people in total.
The “Good Bazaars” made 94 visits to more than 30 traditional bazaars of the Aegean at the end of two years. 6,700 people out of the 41.000 people reached, were interviewed by a dietitian and had an analysis done and 7250 people won prizes. Among the market visitors, 270 interviews with both entertaining and informative content were conducted. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health Izmir Provincial Health Directorate, 680 people who received healthy nutrition advice from specialists signed the agreement named “You Have My Word” on the provision of healthy nutrition and physical activity under a family physician’s control.
