The Cement Industry Employers’ Association (ÇEİS), one of Türkiye’s longest-established employer unions, was granted the Occupational Health and Safety Special Award at the “Common Tomorrows 2025” competition organized by TİSK, with its project titled “Occupational Health and Safety Culture Analysis in the Cement Sector.”
The award-winning project stands out as a significant sectoral benchmark, as it evaluates the safety culture of the cement industry through a holistic methodology, systematically examining employee behaviour and internal safety perceptions. The analysis adopts a multidimensional approach to employee practices, risk awareness, managerial attitudes and communication processes, while field data highlights both the sector’s strengths and areas requiring improvement.
Projects Driving Sectoral Transformation Earn Recognition
The Common Tomorrows Award Program, organized by the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), is a platform designed to promote sustainability, occupational health and safety, social impact and innovative practices in working life. Projects participating in the program are evaluated by an independent jury of experts and awarded through a transparent process supported by public voting. The Occupational Health and Safety Special Award is granted to initiatives that place OHS at the core of corporate culture and put forward measurable improvement targets.
“OHS Holds an Indispensable Place in Our Work Culture”
Commenting after the award ceremony, ÇEİS Chairman Nihat Özdemir emphasized that the project provides guiding insights to strengthen the safety culture across the sector:
“Occupational health and safety hold an indispensable place in the working culture of the cement sector. Enhancing safe production environments is of critical importance both for the well-being of our employees and for the sustainability of our industry. The recognition of our OHS Culture Analysis Project with this award reflects the shared awareness and collective effort of our sector to strengthen its safety culture. Beyond the pride it brings us, this award also serves as a strong source of motivation for the projects we will implement in the coming period.”
“We Have Been Making Significant and Long-Term Investments in OHS”
Highlighting the importance of long-term efforts to enhance the culture of safe working environments in the industry, ÇEİS Secretary General Dr. H. Serdar Şardan stated:
“For many years, we have been making significant investments and demonstrating strong commitment to strengthening safe working conditions in the cement sector. Through both our training infrastructure and field practices, we have focused on advancing the industry’s OHS culture. As a result of these efforts, despite the increase in our sector’s production capacity, we have achieved notable reductions in accident frequency and severity rates—an important indicator for us. The OHS Culture Analysis Project has also made these areas of improvement visible through a scientific approach. Together with our members, we will continue our efforts without interruption to carry the cement sector toward a safer future.”
