Total cement production by TURKMENTO members fell to 53 million 673 thousand tons in the first nine months of 2022, down 8.5% from the same period the year before. Domestic cement sales in the industry fell by 12.8% to 38 million 772 thousand tons between January and September.
TÜRKÇİMENTO’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Fatih Yücelik, stated, “As a sector, we anticipate a 10% drop in domestic cement consumption by the end of 2022 compared to the previous year. Conversely, we anticipate a rise in cement exports and a decline in clinker exports.”
The production and sales totals for the first nine months of 2022 were released by TÜRKÇİMENTO, the cement industry’s umbrella union. Cement production by TÜRKÇİMENTO members, who make up 94% of the industry, fell to 53 million 673 thousand tons between January and September of 2022, down 8.5% from the previous year In the first nine months of the year, domestic cement sales fell by 12.8% to 38 million 772 thousand tons. From January to September 2022, 27.2% of the cement produced was exported.
After 2021, when it saw growth of about 6%, the industry started 2022 with a fall in the domestic market and an increase in exports. Even while domestic sales declined marginally in September, there was still a regional loss in sales across the board.
Yücelik evaluated the cement industry’s performance during the first nine months of 2022 and stated, “After growing by about 6% in 2021, our industry saw a decline in the local market and a rise in exports to start 2022. We anticipated that the sector would remain unfavorable as a result of rising global commodity prices brought on by the Russia-Ukraine situation, and unfortunately it happened. Domestic sales’ negative trend somewhat slowed down in September, but overall sales decreased in all areas. Action needs to be taken right away for 2023.”
