Çimsa, the global brand under Sabancı Group, has signed a new loan agreement amounting to 25 million Euros with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Çimsa has allocated this loan to finance its energy and efficiency investments as a part of its sustainability initiatives.
The loan obtained within the scope of the agreement will be utilized to finance the Solar Power Plant (SPP), Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) systems, and other sustainability projects to be conducted at Çimsa’s Eskişehir Plant. This agreement marks the first time EBRD has provided a cement company in Turkey with financing.
“As Çimsa, we are making significant strides towards our sustainability objectives,” stated Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar and added as follows: This financing agreement acted with the EBRD will contribute to our environmental and sustainability objectives by supporting our energy and efficiency projects. The 25 million Euro loan not only will help fund our investments to be made in our solar energy and waste heat recovery facilities, but also will boost our operational efficiency. We are honored to be the first Turkish cement company to secure such financing from EBRD, showcasing our commitment to leading the industry in sustainability initiatives. This collaboration highlights Çimsa’s journey towards decarbonization in the industry and underscores our dedication to sustainability, with EBRD as a supportive partner.”
This agreement signed with EBRD is a crucial step in Çimsa’s strategy to reduce environmental impact and enhance energy efficiency. In addition to that, Çimsa, which has been a leader in the industry with the projects it has developed for the employment of women, has become the only building materials company in the world to be ranked in the top 100 in the Refinitiv International Diversity and Inclusion Index.
