The first general assembly of the World Cement Union was held in London. Emir Adıgüzel, World Cement Union Board Chairman stated that the global cement demand is expected to increase by 1.5 percent after the increase by 1 percent in 2017.
Emir Adıgüzel, World Cement Union Board Chairman stated that the global cement demand gained a positive acceleration due to the improvement experienced in the developed markets in Europe and America and spoke as follows: “A significant decrease in demand has been observed particularly in developed countries since 2009. However, this trend significantly changed in 2017. Volumes are increasing both in developed and rising markets for the first time since the financial crisis.” Adıgüzel recorded that the global cement consumption is expected to increase by 1.5 percent in 2018 after the increase by 1 percent in 2017 due to the increasing demand in developed countries. When China that is the world’s biggest cement market and is undergoing a normalization process is kept separate, this increase is expected to rise to 3.3 pe rcent.
According to Adıgüzel, a significant part of the growth will come from the developed countries where the growth rate is expected to exceed 3 percent. This positive trend is expected to continue for the following 5 t o 7 years.
USA will be the locomotive in growth According to Adıgüzel, World Cement Union Board Chairman, the new projects initiated after years of saving period constitute the basic reason for the increase in infrastructure spending. USA is expected to be one of the pioneers of growth with an increase by 2 in 2017 and 6 percent in 2018. For Adıgüzel, if USA President Donald Trump realizes 10 percent of what they planned in infrastructure works, a great cement demand will emerge in USA.
On the other hand, while an increase by 4 percent and 5 percent is expected in respectively French and German cement market, it is estimated that an increase by 10 percent is expected in Spain that showed a significant regression and 1 percent in Italy. Despite the jump to be observed in the world cement market, markets such as Saudi Arabia and Russia will continue to be pushed. Trying to stop the excessive cement consumption and geared down in residence production, China will remain constant in 2018, as it did this year.
