Energy is used in various forms – electrical, heat, mechanical, etc. – in many different places such as housing, industry and transportation, and the majority is obtained from limited resources. Because of these two main factors, energy is one of the most critical needs of today’s world. The fact that it has an important place in our lives and that it is obtained from limited resources requires the efficient use of energy.
In order to use energy efficiently, there are more than one energy-related regulation in our country; “Regulation on Energy Performance in Buildings”, “Regulation on Increasing Efficiency in the Use of Energy Resources and Energy” etc.
As you know, our country is insufficient in terms of fossil fuel resources and exports made for fossil fuel use cause a large current account deficit. However, our country is also very lucky in terms of two important renewable energy sources such as wind and sun. The “Regulation on Increasing Efficiency in the Use of Energy Resources and Energy” has been published for the purposes of reducing the use of fossil fuels, reducing the carbon footprint and current account deficit associated with it, ensuring more efficient use of energy, and ensuring the use of alternative fuel sources . According to the second paragraph of Article 7 of the Regulation, public buildings, commercial and service buildings, electricity generation facilities and industrial enterprises liable to appoint an energy manager, organized industrial zones and industrial enterprises liable to establish an energy management unit, until the end of 2023 at the latest have to establish and certify TS EN ISO 50001 Energy Management System. Relevant institutions, organizations and businesses are responsible for keeping the energy management system up-to-date.
In the first paragraph of Article 15 of the same regulation, Efficiency Enhancing Industrialists who want to benefit from Project (VAP) supports,TS EN ISO, which is the basis for the certification of enterprises, is in force. Turkish Accreditation or Turkish Accreditation according to the 50001 Energy Management System Standard accredited by the Authority Accredited by institutions recognized by its institution It is obligatory to have a certificate issued by conformity assessment bodies or to submit a document issued by the institution or organization to which the application is made and showing that the certification application has been made.
In the same regulation, enterprises with an annual total energy consumption between five hundred TEP and one thousand TEP, operating under the chamber of commerce and/or industry and producing all kinds of goods, excluding legal entities holding electricity generation licenses, can also benefit from Efficiency Enhancing Project (VAP) supports. They are required to meet the above-mentioned requirements for TS EN ISO 50001 certification.
