Medcem Cement Group, which owns the largest cement factory in Türkiye and Europe, continues its sustainability-focused efforts as a subsidiary of Eren Holding. Operating with the mission of “creating a more sustainable living space and leaving a better world for future generations,” the group has shared its 2023 Sustainability Report with the public.
Covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023, and prepared in compliance with the GRI Standards, the report provides a detailed overview of the group’s efforts in key areas such as sustainability management, environmental awareness, social performance, and stakeholder engagement. Medcem focuses on projects under the headings of “Technology,” “Environment,” and “People,” and, through investments in clean energy sources, managed to increase green energy production by 13% compared to the previous year. Additionally, the share of energy derived from green energy increased to 21.25%.
Medcem Cement Group reaffirmed its commitment to environmentally friendly production processes by signing the 2050 Net Zero Roadmap for the Cement and Concrete Industry published by the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). The report also highlights the group’s efforts to improve air quality. In 2023, ammonia optimization led to a 15% reduction in NOx emissions, while ammonia consumption in the SNCR unit was reduced by 60%.
Medcem Cement Group also significantly increased its production capacity, raising its annual clinker production to 6.6 million tons. This increase has enabled the group to continue making a difference in the industry with projects that generate economic, environmental, and social benefits. The 2023 Sustainability Report stands out as a concrete demonstration of Medcem’s firm stance in the fight against climate change and global warming.
