SSAB aims to present the solutions that the market needs via new products offered for the mining and cement fields. In September 2017, the company will present a product that will contain the best features of the Hardox 450 and Hardox 500, named the Hardox 500 Tuf wear steel, and this resulting wear plate has no match in the market. This plate is so thick that it can be used as structural material in heavy duty dumper bodies, containers and buckets. Moreover, high wear and tear resistance, while extending the service life, also gives the ability to resist severe impacts.
With the Hardox 500 Tuf it is possible to double the service life
WearCalc and TippCalc calculations based on abrasive wear with granite revealed that the Hardox 500 Tuf had 85-100% longer service life than the Hardox 400. The operating conditions under which the Hardox 500 Tuf performs excellently; loading and unloading of heavy and sharp rocks in stone quarries and mines, handling of heavy and bulky steel scrapers, and demolition of concrete pieces containing reinforced concrete debris loaded or lowered to dampers. The Hardox 500 Tuf has a 27 J guaranteed impact energy at 20°C and a typical value of 45 J at -40°C. An out of the ordinary, brush hardness range of 475 – 505 HBW Brinell is offered.
The ultimate in coating technology; Duroxite
SSAB aims to perform significant development in coating technology with its new product Duroxite. Duroxite, developed to provide the final user a complete wear solution, is presented at Hardox Wearparts service points, which are production and sales channels of Hardox wear parts and are serviced in 13 locations throughout Turkey. The Duroxite application, which is realized by putting the wear resistant parts such as Hardox, or the anti-abrasive parts on the steel with lower strength, looks like a new era especially for applications that require high wear. Duroxite is expected to play an important role in the processing of materials, especially those with coal and high quartz content.
Duroxite weighs only 10% of the coating material
Duroxite can be used in many industries such as mining, cement production and transport and energy production with coal. The coating to be applied in Duroxite applications is 10 percent of the actual thickness of the material. This ratio is the same throughout the entire plate and does not vary from plate to plate. Duroxite applications’ wear consistency continues until 75 percent of coating. The remaining 25 percent constitutes the transition layer for connection to the main plate. The ideal carbide component contributes to the long service life of Duroxite with high abrasion resistance by ensuring homogeneous connection between base metal and coating.
High temperature resistant wear steel Hardox HiTemp
SSAB has transferred the heat resistance properties of Toolox to Hardox HiTemp, a new Hardox grade, ready to order from September 2016. The properties of the Hardox HiTemp are achieved using a high-quality raw material with a carefully controlled production process. Hardox HiTemp is a cost effective solution for wear resistance at high temperatures. Hardox HiTemp is offered in the form of plates in the range of 15-30 mm. It can be cut, welded and machined by the same type of machine used for standard steel.
BASF, which has a deep knowledge of local construction needs, has also been an important solution partner in the construction of Eurasia Tunnel which is of great importance for Turkey after Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Osman Gazi Bridge. The Eurasia Tunnel (Istanbul Strait Highway Tube Transition) project, which has opened to traffic on December 22, 2016, following a spectacular opening ceremony on December 20, 2016 and is the first in the world to be a two-story highway tunnel combining two continents. The project, which runs between Koşuyolu and Kumkapi, covers a total of 14.6 kilometers along with 5 kilometers of tunnels and approach roads, and the drivers are enjoying the privilege of a safe and comfortable journey that lasts for 5 minutes. Eurasia Tunnel aims to relieve Istanbul traffic by taking the burden of other strait passages.
After Osman Gazi and Yavuz Sultan Selim bridges, which were opened in 2016, BASF made a contribution with Master Builder Solutions products which is a brand of Building Chemicals by appropriately combining the components included in the wide product portfolio to overcome the setbacks faced in every stage of the Eurasia Tunnel.
In addition to facilitating concrete casting during the construction of the Eurasia Tunnel, BASF’s master builders’ brands MasterGlenium, MasterRoc, MasterFinish, MasterEmaco and MasterProtect Antigraffiti are used to build the project and provide a reliable, durable and long service life.
The Master Builders Solutions product line, which contains BASF technologies that can help create a more successful and sustainable construction process, has become the preferred brand in many areas. High performance MasterGlenium concrete admixtures have been used in tunnel segments to achieve concrete with a 100-year retention and service life. By using MasterFinish series products, the concrete surface quality was improved and smooth surface finish was achieved. The MasterRoc series products helped support the tunnel. MasterEmaco repair mortars were used in the tunnels and all connection ways that required concrete repair. As the workability and settlement of the concrete became easier, the productivity of the concrete production was improved.
For the Eurasia Tunnel, the MasterProtect Antigraffiti 2400 product also provides a solution for the protection of walls with silane based coating which does not allow writing on any surface with any paint type and does not create a visible coating effect on the surface.
BASF experts have also developed a solution to the ‘Expansion Joints’, one of the most critical and sensitive elements of tunnel internal structures. The bedding that the expansion joints require are fulfilled with the products that provide high adherence to the existing structure and can withstand long periods of vibration due to heavy vehicle traffic.
