Akçansa, a joint venture of Sabancı Holding and Heidelberg Materials, focuses on creating broad and comprehensive positive impact—from reducing environmental footprint to generating societal benefits—under its principle of “Responsible Work for the Future.” The company enriches its efforts through strategic collaborations.
In this context, Akçansa has signed a 10-year partnership with Akademi Çevre, one of the leading companies in waste management and recycling services, to establish a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facility. Under the project, an RDF Preparation Plant with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons will be operated. The facility, which began operations in October 2025, aims to save 130,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the duration of the contract through the fuel produced on-site.
“We continue activities that will steadily enhance our sustainability performance”
Commenting on the project, Sinan İnaç, Vice General Manager of Procurement, Logistics and International Trade at Akçansa said “With the vision of becoming Türkiye’s construction materials company with the highest stakeholder value, we work to create maximum value for all our stakeholders across social, environmental, and economic domains. The use of alternative fuels plays a critical role both in reintegrating waste into the economy and in combating climate change. We prioritize focusing on alternative sources that provide lower carbon emissions and undertaking the necessary initiatives and collaborations to achieve this. We are pleased to implement such a valuable partnership with Akademi Çevre that supports our sustainability approach, and we hope this agreement will bring benefits to both our organizations.”
“We continue to contribute to our country’s sustainable production goals”
Uğur Işık, Chairman of the Board of Akademi Çevre, commented on the partnership:
“Our sustainability-focused circular economy models, which are at the core of our operating principles, play a critical role in Türkiye’s Green Transformation process. Our vision of integrating waste into production processes aligns closely with the country’s climate strategy efforts. In this regard, the strategic partnership we have established with Akçansa is a strong reflection of our commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility. Through this project, which aims to reduce our carbon footprint by recovering industrial waste within the framework of circular economy and zero-waste principles, we will contribute not only to the industrial sector but also directly to Türkiye’s overall sustainable production targets. As Akademi Çevre, in line with our mission to lead in the fight against climate change and green transformation, we will continue to work collaboratively with our stakeholders for a sustainable future. We hope this partnership will be beneficial for both parties.”
