The construction industry faces significant environmental and economic challenges regarding the storage and management of demolition waste generated after building demolitions. These wastes contain valuable components such as iron and minerals, and recycling these components is crucial for sustainable construction practices.
Construction demolition waste can be reused in cement and concrete production once iron is separated, and the waste is passed through crushers and sieves to be classified according to size. When their various physical and chemical properties are suitable, they become viable materials for reuse. This process offers significant economic and environmental benefits.
Cement manufacturers are among the sectors most affected by emission-related obligations. The use of alternative raw materials and additives is one of the fastest and most effective solutions for reducing emissions. Construction demolition waste, thanks to its recycled nature, is one of the most accessible alternative raw materials to reduce emissions without depleting natural resources.
There is an existing standard, EN 197-6, that permits and details the use of construction demolition waste in cement production. CPC Certification, authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, aims to be a solution partner for cement manufacturers producing in this field.
In this context, the first certificate issued in Türkiye was awarded by CPC Certification – Establishment after a successful audit at Limak Cement Industry and Trade Inc.’s Kilis Factory. This achievement is considered a significant step toward promoting sustainable cement production and environmentally friendly practices.
