TÜRKÇİMENTO realized the “Mastic Tree Afforestation Area” project on an area of 10 thousand square meters in Gerenköy quarters located in Foça district of İzmir in cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation – İzmir Foça Municipality on the 65th anniversary of its foundation.
A total of 250 mastic trees and 500 Arizona cypress and Sempervirens cypress saplings were planted in the Mastic Tree Afforestation Area within the scope of the project which is supported by TÜRKÇİMENTO.
Aiming to revitalize the economic, cultural and social value of the mastic tree which is becoming extinct, area preparations were carried out and saplings were planted within the scope of the project. Additionally, a drip irrigation system was installed and implemented in the area which was provided with fire prevention measures. The Aegean Forest Foundation provides support to the economic, social and cultural development of local women in its projects through training, acquisition of skills and improvement of qualifications.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of TÜRKÇİMENTO, Fatih Yücelik made an assessment on the Mastic Tree Project by saying “Carried out with the goal of encouraging the cultivation of the Mastic Tree in order to protect the species by re-breeding the Mastic Tree, another thing that made us excited the most in this project is the economic and social support it offers to women. Local people were involved in the activities carried out and in the planting of saplings during the realization of this project by prioritizing women employment in the region. The local people have made a great deal of contribution to the project which also features a training process. I would like to take this occasion to extend our gratitude towards everyone, especially the Foundation for their contributions.”
