Technologies for reducing the environmental impact of cement factories are increasing day by day. How do you think carbon neutral factories will affect the future of the cement industry?
Sensitivity to the environment goes through a sustainable production. 10 years from now, industrial establishments with a high cement and carbon load will come to the fore with their carbon footprint, water footprint and zero waste projects, not their production capacities. In addition to growth, the cement industry will make a difference in itself by applying carbon neutral technologies in order to survive, and will be able to maintain its export potential. Otherwise, with limited production tonnages that can only meet the needs of the country, downsizing in the future will be inevitable.
What kind of sensitivity do you, as a company, show about the environment? What are the strategies you follow and actions you take in this field?
We, as Nuh Çimento, follow international developments and shape our future by making short and long-term plans for sustainable production. While producing with a carbon emission value far below Turkey’s average, we also recycle 92% of our waste and carry out recycling projects that will reduce our water discharges to zero. We adopt cleaner production and sustainable resource management for the future, and we make management decisions of our company with an integrated perspective.
