One of the largest cement producers in Türkiye and Europe, Medcem Cement Group has added a new sustainability-focused investment to its portfolio by successfully completing the test process for its Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) Facility. This facility, which will recover 25% of the energy needs of the second rotary kiln line that became operational in 2024, will make a significant contribution to the company’s goals of reducing environmental impact and enhancing energy efficiency.
Focusing on increasing energy efficiency with its advanced technology and low-energy-consuming equipment, Medcem Cement Group continues its efforts in this field with determination. In line with its goal of expanding the use of renewable energy, the company converts waste heat generated during production into energy through the Waste Heat Recovery System (WHR), thereby reducing carbon emissions and contributing to minimizing the environmental footprint of the cement sector.
As part of its sustainable environmental policies, Medcem Cement Group has implemented this project with a power generation capacity of 9.6 MWh. This facility holds the distinction of being the world’s largest Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant utilizing the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system to generate electricity from a single heat source.
With this innovative system, 25% of the energy demand of the second rotary kiln line is recovered, leading to significant cost savings in energy expenses while also substantially reducing carbon emissions. Through this investment, Medcem Cement Group not only strengthens its leadership in the industry but also continues to play a pioneering role in Türkiye’s sustainable industrial transformation.
