The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which was opened with a gorgeous ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was built on BASF-developed MasterFlow Grouts. In addition, the bridge was made resistant to corrosion thanks to BASF’s MasterProtect products used during the construction. On the other hand, a rail system planned to be built on the bridge will be integrated with the Marmaray and Istanbul Metros so as to bring together Atatürk Airport, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, and the under-construction third airport. The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which will allow for non-stop passenger transfers from Edirne to İzmit, is exposed to a high amount of chloride that causes corrosion. However, thanks to the solutions developed specific to the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge by BASF Master Builders Solutions’ specialists, the reinforced concrete bridge piers were taken under protection with the MasterProtect 8000 CI (a corrosion inhibitor). Plus, MasterEmaco S488 CI, a product with low chloride permeability, was developed for the structural repair of concrete surfaces in order to eliminate the exposure to constant chloride attacks and the MasterProtect 8000 CI corrosion protection system guaranteed that the bridge elements will serve smoothly during their expected service life.
The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, one of the world’s most magnificent bridges, boasts BASF‘s Master Builders Solutions-branded MasterFlow 4800 Grout in its vital parts. This ensures durability against very heavy loads. MasterFlow Grout implementations were carried out at about 200 and 290 meters above sea level under harsh weather conditions.
The MasterEmaco T 1200 PG fluid repair mortar with ultra high resistance was used in the vital points where the bridge approach viaducts were assembled. This implementation led to a very quick production process. In addition, a flexible polymer concrete structure was designed to eliminate the grade problems occurred prior to the implementation of the asphalt mastic link road flooring. Also the products MasterGlenium 51, MasterCast 125, and MasterFiber 15 MF were used in accordance with the solutions offered by the BASF Master Builders Solutions’ concrete admixture specialists, and thanks to the jointly developed solutions the road reached the required project grade.
