Aşkale Cement has been awarded the IREC International Renewable Energy Certificate with its waste heat recovery technology from the cement production line in which it invested 13 million dollars. With 138 million tons of carbon gas emissions prevented, the company provides 15.29 percent of the energy it consumes from its waste heat recovery system.
As in many sectors today, renewable energy solutions are increasing in the cement industry as energy technologies develop. Aşkale Cement, one of the well-established brands in the cement industry, has been awarded the IREC International Renewable Energy Certificate, a first in the Turkish cement industry, as a result of its cooperation with Energy Pool Turkiye, a manufacturer of renewable energy solutions.
Developed by the International REC Standard Foundation, the IREC International Renewable Energy Certificate certifies that electricity is generated from renewable energy sources by ensuring the traceability of the source of the energy produced.
“We prevented 138 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions”
Expressing that they are proud to receive the IREC International Renewable Energy Certificate with the waste heat recovery technology investment they made, Aşkale Cement CEO and Board Chairman Fatih Yücelik said the following about their project: “The investment we made for our Waste Heat Recovery System (WHR-Waste Heat Recovery) from the Cement Production Line, which enabled us to obtain the IREC certificate, amounted to USD 13.2 million. With the commissioning of the system, the energy we have obtained from waste heat to date has reached 308.5 million kwh. In this way, we have provided 15.29 percent of our total energy consumption through waste heat recovery. Another achievement that makes us proud is our contribution to the environment in terms of carbon emissions. Thanks to our investment, we have prevented a total of 137.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.”
“A more livable world for future generations”
Stating that they pioneered a first in the sector with the IREC International Renewable Energy Certificate, Fatih Yücelik continued his words as follows: “In order to leave a more livable world for future generations, we are carrying out exemplary works in Turkiye and contribute to the environment and nature with our sustainability- oriented works. As a Group, we attach great importance to sustainability. Our priority is to use waste more as a resource and reduce carbon emissions.”
