The report on “Domestic Added Value in Exports by Cement, Glass, and Ceramics Sectors” prepared by Cement, Glass, Ceramic, and Earthenware Exporters Association (“ÇCSİB”) is made public. The report wherein the added value created by the sector proved a much higher performance in contributing to the national economy.
Cement, Glass, Ceramics and Earthenware Exporters Association (“ÇCSİB”) prepared a report titled as “Domestic Added Value in Exports by Cement, Glass, and Ceramics Sectors” demonstrating the domestic added value created by the sector in all aspects. The report proving how great a contribution was made to the national economy by means of high domestic added value created by the cement, glass, and ceramics sectors far above their export performances is prepared by Dr. Can Fuat Gürlesel, ÇCSİB Economics Consultant.
Export performance of cement, glass, ceramics and earthenware sectors in the last decade examined
According to the report analyzing the export performances of three sectors in the last decade, while the domestic added value ratio of the cement sector in exports was an average of 68%, this ratio was 78.6% in the glass sector and 81.1% in the ceramics. In other words, 68 Dollars of every 100-Dollar export by the cement sector, 81.1 Dollars of the same amount of export by the ceramics sector, and 78.6 Dollars of the same amount of export by the glass sector are kept in our country. The report demonstrated that the cement, glass, and ceramics sectors with an export value of 26.5 billion dollars in the period of 2009-2018 created a domestic added-value of 20.3 billion dollars in the same period. According to the report analyzing the exports of glass and ceramics sectors based on the sub-sectors thereof; the domestic added-value ratios in exports were 77.1% in sheet glass, 63% in packing glass, 85% in glass household articles, and 70% in tiled glass, while in the sub-sectors of ceramics, 81% in ceramic coating materials, 82% in ceramic medical devices, and 81.5% in other ceramic products.
With 16% increase in exports in 2019, these three sectors became the hidden champions of exports
In his speech during the press conference held for launching of the report, Mr. Erdem Çenesiz, Board Chairman of Cement, Glass, Ceramics, and Earthenware Exporters Association, emphasized that the association is the only coordinating union, providing a positive contribution to the foreign trade balance of Turkey by means of high-rate of domestic source utilization in production and net inflow of foreign currency. Expressing that the report was prepared in order to manifest the high potentials of three sectors in terms of domestic added value, Mr. Erdem Çenesiz added; “I would like to underline that these 3 sectors are completely export sectors. However, the more important is our domestic added value ratio. In this respect, we may say that these sectors are the hidden champions of export”.
The 2019 export of Cement, Glass, Ceramics, and Earthenware Exporters Association is realized as 3.6 billion dollars with an increase of 16% in comparison to 2018.Lats year, the ceramics sector reached to an export value of 896 million dollars with an increase of 6%.
