Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) reveals the current position and anticipated developments in the construction sector as well as related production and service sectors in Turkey in Ready Mixed Concrete Report published monthly. This Index on relation to ready mixed concrete, one of the major inputs of the construction sector and also, used in constructions right after its production without stocking, is one of the most important indicators displaying the growth rate of construction sector.
Housing demand still high
THBB disclosed August 2020 Report of Ready Mixed Concrete Index, which is anxiously awaited every month. Dynamism in construction outlasted the 3rd month. Housing demand is still very high. Accordingly, expectation rate is rising. Nevertheless, rise in Confidence Index observed along with the normalization process remained on the negative side in the last two months. It is considered that particularly, uncertainty of which way the pandemic will be evolved in fall and winter times limits the Confidence Index.
There are positive outlooks in all indexes in comparison to the same month of the last year
There is a positive outlook in all the indexes in Ready-Mixed Concrete Index August Report and accordingly, in construction sector comparing to the last year. Although the increase in the Confidence Index in comparison to the same month of the previous year is high, it was still below the threshold of the index value. Expectations for the forthcoming period are still high.
Positive steps taken in the construction sector are expected be maintained in the forthcoming period
THBB Board Chair, Mr. Yavuz Işık, assessing the results of the report, says; “Developments in the construction sector in the last three months indicate that the construction sector acts now as a catalyst in Turkish economy. In conjunction with the acceleration in constructions after 20 months, there was substantial activity encountered in the manufacturing sectors supplying inputs to the construction sector as well as the service industries in association to the construction sector.”
Having stated that housing sales reaching to the peak in June with 190 thousand has reached to the highest figure of all times in July with 229 thousand, Mr. Yavuz Işık says; “There was a much greater activity in the second hand housing sales in July. Bank loan facilities were effective in the sales of new housings, leading to a sales figure of about 40 thousand. Considering the leading role of the construction sector in Turkish economy, positive steps taken for the sector is expected to be sustained in the forthcoming period.”
