In order to ensure a 100% safe and healthy work environment at our factory, we first aimed at complying with the legal regulations, making records readily available and having all of our employees support and participate in OHS activities. At Bursa Cement, this participation and support is very important. That’s because we want our employees to believe in the idea that most of the time they are the only ones who can ensure their own safety and we want to see them work with this idea in mind.
That’s why we aim for a 100% supervision in field activities. All Bursa Cement Factory employees know that they will be checked during field activities in terms of job orders, personal protective equipment (PPE), ‘5 minutes for my risks’ procedure (R5), work permits, environmental safety, labeling issues, and whether or not the equipment is safe. At the beginning of the work, all our employees make a planning about the risk control measures and about how they can make sure that what they do is safe. All OHS supervisions are always carried out based on a positive and supporting perspective by trying to find a middle ground with the employees and aiming at convincing people. Appreciated matters, as well as warnings are reported to all departments in writing at the end of each day. As the regular and steady supervisions and reports indicate our management’s perspective and approach, we think that we detect behavioral changes in the medium term and we believe that we are rapidly progressing towards our goals.
Bursa Cement tries to be proactive with its annual work and training plans and has a mission to act as a company which always leads the way with the best OHS practices. The situation assessment surveys carried out during OHS training sessions show that OHS awareness is constantly increasing and the relevant support is snowballing at our company. As we continue to pay attention to our employees’ suggestions and comments we see that the employee support behind us is increasing and a safe work environment is being ensured. What lies behind a successful occupational health and safety procedure is sure to gain the support and trust of employees.
