Sabanci Holding Cement Group held a meeting called “Cement day” for the first time this year to share its vision and mission in the cement sector represented by Akcansa and Cimsa with its business partners. The meeting was held with the participation of Sabanci Holding Chairman Guler Sabanci, Sabanci Holding CEO Cenk Alper and Sabanci Holding Cement Group President Dr. Tamer Saka and 400 business partners.
In the “Cement Day” held at Sabanci Center, expert speakers were brought together with the business partners. In his speech entitled “World and Turkish Economy”, Gokhan Sen, Editor-in-chief of Bloomberg HT, said that the secret to success in changing economic conditions is to adapt quickly to change and create synergies. In the last session, KONDA General Manager Bekir Agirdir drew attention to the speed of change in cement sector and the need to adapt to change in cement sector as in all sectors with his speech on “Changing Society Dynamics”.
Stating that Sabanci Holding Cement Group has the largest number of cement production facilities in Turkey today, Sabanci Holding Chairman Guler Sabanci told in her opening speech that: “As Sabanci Group, we have been in the cement business for 50 years. 18 percent of cement production is owned by Sabanci brand and we are the export leader. We now compete with world brands and sell to more than 65 countries with our own brand. We export over 1 billion TL annually. We aim to become a world leader in white cement as a Turkish brand with the acquisition of the Bunol Factory in Spain.”
Sabanci Holding CEO Cenk Alper stated in his speech at Cement Day that the world has undergone a rapid transformation, that for the first time in history 50% of the world population now lives in cities, that this figure will reach 56% by 2020, and that urban transformation and large infrastructure and reconstruction projects in Turkey offer important opportunities for the development of the cement sector.
Stating that as Sabancı Holding Cement Group, they have always been a pioneer in R&D and innovation investments, products and services, and they have commissioned three new investments in the last year, Cenk Alper continued: “We paid our effort and time in our country’s valuable projects such as Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and 1915 Canakkale Bridge. We have gifted our Fine Arts High School which we built in Canakkale to our talented young people. In the provinces where our factories are located, our social investments have always continued. We have created employment opportunities in about twenty provinces with our factories and milling facilities. As in every line of business we are in, we are always chasing the new one in cement. With the support and strength of our business partners, we will continue to contribute to the growth in the cement sector and the development of the Turkish economy.”
