TÜRKÇİMENTO, the umbrella association of the cement sector, announced the production and sales figures for the January-April period of 2022. Representing 94% of the sector, production figures realized by the members of TÜRKÇİMENTO in the first four months of 2022 regressed to 20.7 million tons with a decrease by 11.9% compared to the previous year. Domestic sales in the cement sector also decreased to 14.4 million tons by 17.9% in the first four months of the year. 29.8% of the cement produced in January-April period of 2022 was exported.
Chairperson of TÜRKÇİMENTO Board of Directors Fatih Yücelik made an evaluation by saying “Realizing a growth of approximately 6% in 2021, the cement sector gave a start to 2022 with a decrease in the domestic market. Unfortunately, it is not possible to mention an increase in quantity if we take the export figures for the first half into consideration. On the other hand, the dramatic increase in our energy costs continues to put our sector in difficulty. Despite all of these circumstances, we anticipate that our sector will become more active in domestic sales starting from the second half of the year with the increase in construction activities starting from June.”
Exports for the first half of 2022
According to the temporary data of Exporters Unions, the total export rate of the cement sector reached to 791 million dollars from 614 million dollars with an increase by 28.9% on basis of value in the period of January-June 2022 compared to the same period of the last year. Total exports amounted to 15 million tons with a decline by 2.9%. 9.4 million tons and 5.6 million tons of the export consisted of cement and clinker, respectively.
