Carrying out the first waste project in the Turkish cement sector with Akcansa / Buyukcekmece, Vecoplan stands out with its patented Vecoplan HiTorc – Drive technology, offerings its customer a number of advantages and decreasing operating costs.

Can you tell us the story of Vecoplan’s which has an ancient history coming to Turkey and its’ services.

We have already knew how Turkish Cement Sector has been developed and has a significant capacity, where as the alternative fuel usage has not been utilized that much but will be sooner or later.  Vecoplan, the world leader in the production of high performance processing plants for alternative fuels from waste, had to find a representative in Turkey, which fulfill this leadership and knows the market the best, active and reputable without doubt.

In 2006, after an intensive search, we had decided to work with Somer International, who has been a representative of Fives Pillard/FCB, Brokk, Bricking Solutions, Standart Industrie, Cinar, etc. for a long period of time.

In our first year, we had realized the first alternative fuel project with Akcansa/Buyukcekmece.  After that in the following order Cimentas/Izmir, Sureko RDF Preparation Plant, Hereko RDF Preparation Plant, Bursa Cement, Cimsa/Eskisehir, Akcansa/Canakkale, OYAK/Bolu, Bumerang/RDF Kontamine Izmit, OYAK/Adana(RDF Kontamine), OYAK/Unye, Limak/Trakya, Votorantim/Hasanoglan, Bursa Entegre Enerji RDF Preparation Plant, projects has been realized.

What’s the technology of Vecoplan?

Vecoplan AG, which is based in Bad Marienberg, Germany, develops solutions for processing and handling waste and packaging material with RDF quality. The company offers machines, engineering and services in all areas relating to waste handling, including unloading of trucks, preshredding, reshredding, waste separation, screening, air separation, storage and transport to the main burner or calcinator. Machines for fuel preparation and processing are used on site by cement manufacturers and waste treatment companys.

Vecoplan AG, designs and supplies systems for shredding, conveying and processing wood, biomass, plastics and paper as well as domestic and commercial waste. The company, a market leader, employs about 400 people. The team’s responsibilities include overall project management and comprehensive service as well as erection, commissioning and maintenance work. Customers can obtain all they need from a single source.

What kind of products do you have? Which one is the most demanded product?  Why?

The main products are :

Shredders of Vecoplan, will bring the waste to desired particle size with low operating costs and impressive high power at all times with patented HiTorc – Drive and high efficient rotor designs always in accordance with the project requirements..

Separators and special screens which are designed to separate waste,

Storage systems, which are designed to overcome the problems of classic storage.

Vecobelt, closed mechanical air supported pipe conveyors, which become essential to overcome the traditional conveying systems such as belt conveyor.

Dosing systems and all the necessary equipment for waste handling.

Vecoplan AG as a solution provider and machine manufacturer provides a high level of their own manufactured products from the manufacturing in their headquarter in Bad Marienberg/Germany.

Can you give us information on Vecoplan’s RDF handling in Turkey?

Here I would like to mention one example project which has been installed and commissioned in 2018 at Votorantim Cimento – Hasanoğlan Plant. The installation consist of an alternative fuel feeding system with a design capacity of up to 40 t/h with two different material streams

1. RDF = Refused Derived Fuel  2. TDF = Tire Derived Fuel

The materials have an individual reception area followed by oversize screening, FE separation, automatic sample station and two weigh belt scales. From the reception area the material is conveyed via two Vecobelts (an innovative enclosed conveyor system with an extremely good energy efficiency for long distances up to 500m)  with a total conveying distance of about 280m to the calciner tower, where the material is gravimetrically dosed to the burning process via a double flap gate and two security high temperature slide gates. This is one example of a typical project, every installa-tion needs an individual review and here we can help with our long term experience and process knowledge.  (Picture of the installation enclosed)

Can you tell us about your existing projects and 2019 targets?

Currently there are 4-5 projects which we are working on but naturally it is not appropriate to mention their names.

Before the end of 2019 or first half of 2020 we are hoping to realize a few new projects.

What are the problems  experienced in the sector? And their reflections to your company?

Input material for Alternative Fuel can be anything: Solid waste, municipal waste, industrial waste, biomass, tyre chips etc.   Sometimes the deviation of the measurement and shape from the predetermined standards can be a problem. When designing all these systems the input materials’ measurement, shape, density, humidity etc. will be assumed to a standard value but in real life examples the actual values are different.  This may cause problems which results in additional design changes.  For example, if the flammables in waste are not foreseen in the standard, it may cause a fire and if the system is not equipped with fire fighting, there may be severe damages.

Do you provide after service supports?

It is an important advantage that Vecoplan had realized a lot of projects in Turkey.  When an expert is visiting a plant, he may also have the chance to visit other plants regardless of having a problem.  This enables us to stay in close contact with the customers.  Furthermore Veco + Live, online communication service will enable immediate support.

Any customer complaints about  the sector? What are your solutions?

We have not experienced any major problems so far;  For small problems, immediate precautions and urgent solutions resulted as experience which in turn to be used in developing the products further.

When you evaluate the year 2019 from sector’s perspective, what can you tell us about current situation?

Turkish Cement Sector is among world leaders in cement production but in Alternative Fuel usage is not at satisfactory levels at all.  During the last 10 years the investments(of which at least half by Vecoplan) are not to be underestimated but we are still at the beginning of the road.

At last, can you tell us more about yourself?

After my education as a mechatronics technician and certified PLC programmer, I started my career at Vecoplan AG in 2004 as a start-up engineer for shredders and full waste, wood and recycling processing plants all over the world. During this time, I worked in various applications and many different processes. After several years in the field, I led the electrical development team with the main focus on high efficient drive concepts and controls for all types of Vecoplan shredders. Since 2013 I am Key Account Manager for cement applications. The knowledge gathered in over 15 years in various Alternative Fuel Applications now allows me to provide our clients with customized solutions.
