Could you talk about the general organization of the MGH Mühendislik which provides services in different areas such as heavy industry, construction and engineering services?
MGH Mühendislik ve İnşaat A.Ş. is an Istanbul-based company experienced for over 22 years in the surface and infrastructure construction, heavy steel structure and industrial construction. Also, company has delivered many domestic and international projects. Besides engineering and construction industry, company invested in the environmental technologies & innovation and mining areas.

Our companies created a fast and effective decisionmaking mechanism with a core managerial staff, each of whom is expert in their fields, gaining significant experience until today. For the years to come, we set the goal to specialize on more specific works and offer our clients solutions that adopt the most accurate approach. We continue to further our international collaborations with specialized and competent professional companies through R&D support provided by the top universities of our country.

What services do you provide to your clients? On which key projects are you working in the recent period?
As MGH Engineering, we do not adopt a standardized approach to meet needs of our clients, instead we are developing a client-centric solution. Whatever the requirement of our client is, we produce multiple solutions through a comprehensive pre-feasibility study, and determine jointly with our clients the most advantageous one among these options.

At GALATA PORT located in Karaköy, Istanbul, the project we have recently completed, and a source of pride for us, we collaborated with one of the leading Italian contractors for the deep sub-sea excavation works and industrial soil improvement works. Thanks to our customized design and engineering solution, we successfully delivered the project within the deadline.

In addition, we are currently making progress in the engineering works of a quite large industrial complex project at abroad, for which the project development made in collaboration with the employer. Construction is planned to commence by the end of November 2020.

You are collaborating and cooperating with the different institutions at home and abroad. What kind of organization and works do you have in this area? We have been carrying out R&D works in close cooperation with Civil, Mining and Environmental Engineering Departments of Istanbul Technical University. Especially, we are working on the waste heat recovery systems, beneficiation processes and methods, production of industrial raw material from scrap zinc. We are in close contact with German companies because of their advanced engineering backbone, in particular.

As part of your new organization, you have signed a contract with Thermax, one of the world leading companies in the area of cement heat waste recovery. Could you give us some details about this work and project?
“At the beginning of 2020, we, MGH Mühendislik A.Ş., signed a collaboration agreement with Thermax, one of the world-leading companies in the waste heat recovery systems. This agreement demonstrates our commitment to make this technology available to the cement plants which have not yet invested in the waste heat recovery.

In midst of stiff competition of today’s world, our goal is to return the waste heat formed during cement production and released via flue without any treatment to the WHRC system and then transform it to electrical energy using patented boiler technology innovated by Thermax.

We have chosen to collaborate with Thermax especially because of the higher efficiency achieved by the patented boiler technology which is insusceptible to the ambient heat, providing a great advantage compared to its counterparts. Thus, it will be possible for WHR system to meet 25-30% of the energy consumed by the plant, depending on the type of the plant and the design of the system.

Return on investment of a system may vary 4 to 6 years, on average, depending on the scope and size of the project. Also, we are currently negotiating with two different investment finance institutions to access affordable foreign funds on good conditions for use in our future investments.

There are many innovations introduced by Thermax to the industry. Could you explain the activities and services of the company in general?
Thermax has become one of the leading companies in the building of the Waste Heat Recovery plants thanks to many projects realized in 88 countries. Thermax also designs Waste Heat Recovery systems used in different industries such as steel-iron industry producing flue gas. The specialization areas of the firm is Boiler&Heater Technologies, air pollution prevention systems, cement plant flue filters, waste management and production of chemicals used in the waste water treatment.

What kind of advantages will cement companies enjoy if they choose Thermax products?
Thermax has launched a total of 3200 MW electricity generation in 125 different projects across the world. Organized system they set up has completed 20 million man/hour without any accident, and all works carried out according to the OHSAS Occupational Health and Safety Standards.

Thanks to boiler technology of Thermax, we offer our clients the turnkey construction of Waste Heat Recovery Plant at very high efficiencies as a package. As a result, it will be possible to decrease the energy costs as the electricity generated from waste heat will be used in the production process.

Why heat recovery is important for a cement plant?
Thanks to waste heat recovery, plants are able to generate inhouse the electricity that will meet 25%-30% of the energy they consumed during the production. However, when the electricity becomes mainly “Renewable Energy” in the future, then the result will be much more advantageous in terms of cost. Given the highly competitive and cost-centered production conditions in the cement industry, then waste heat recovery becomes much more important.

Thermax has been carrying out in different geographies and countries with its solutions. What are your opinions on introduction of these know-how and experience in Turkey?
While based-in India, Thermax has affiliates, offices and collaborations in different industries across 33 different countries.

Becoming a resident of Turkey by opening a representation office, Thermax demonstrates its strong faith and trust in this industry of our country. We believe in that the technology and know-how of a world-leading company with a particular specialization in the recyclable energy will make a great economic contribution in our country.

What are your targets and strategies in the period to come?
As we all know, Covid-19 has been negatively affecting the whole world in the recent times. Therefore, we believe in that a system that can amortize itself in a short time find a global acceptance in the short and medium term. However, in light of the demands of producers, we anticipate to prepare the project proposal by analyzing each of them separately with comprehensive engineering calculations.
