Unanimously elected as Chairman of TOBB Cement and Cement Products Assembly, Fatih Yücelik, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TÜRKÇİMENTO, said that they aim to continue the growth of the sector at home and abroad by preserving the priority of safe production with a human approach first.

Speaking at the TOBB Cement and Cement Products Assembly meeting, Fatih Yücelik reminded that Turkey is the second largest producer in the world after Vietnam and stated that the biggest market of the cement industry, which exports to over 100 countries, is the USA. Yücelik emphasized that the cement industry is a strategic sector that employs approximately 17 thousand people and contributes significantly to the country’s economy with a turnover of 1.7 billion dollars and export income of 1.1 billion dollars.

Emphasizing that the environmental issue is one of the most important agenda items of the cement industry, Fatih said: “Major investments are being made in our sector in the fields of energy efficiency investments, use of biomass, electricity generation from waste heat and production of cement with additives. There are important actions taken in the field of sustainability. We are a sector that reduces carbon emissions with the energy efficiency investments we have made for many years. It is important to support the Turkish cement sector, which carries out its infrastructure preparations with its own capital, in terms of legislation and to bring in properly prepared municipal waste to the economy. This approach should be one of the important steps of the zero waste strategy.”

Pointing out that the Green Consensus and border carbon tax issues are one of the important threats that should be addressed together as the public and private sectors and may reduce the export power of the sector in the upcoming period, Yücelik said: “Our industry supports environmentally friendly production with its investments by doing its part and sets an example to many countries with its low carbon emission. Including additional incentives for environmental investment is deemed important in terms of supporting the process. As TÜRKÇİMENTO, we will share with the public the Carbon Roadmap work on the subject in the coming days”.
