A global downturn is actually present in the world. This is a fact. Naturally, our country is highly affected by this downturn. However, this is not the first time that such thing has happened. It can be anticipated that it will not be the last. The real matter is the incoming downturn, it is not the matter of whether it will cause a major or a slight impact. The real issue is having plans A, B and C in respect to such circumstances? The issue is directly that. The answer for the question of “Why Did It Happen Like That?” has a common answer when we examine all of the companies which had to limit or cease their activities in 2018; learning no lessons from the previous downturns, supposing that downturns always have slight impacts, expecting the remedy from others (particularly from the government), making wishes instead of assuming preventive actions. Our national industry is experiencing a very idle period now, however, it is not good to say “There is downturn and there is nothing else to do!”. Our colleagues in other countries can be in a more advantageous position than us in many fields, but, we need to research what they do the best very well. Also, past of each employee shall always be evaluated at the position they work (workshop, factory, plant, laboratory, commercial organizations). Who was there before them to work. Who offered what to the company. In summary, how did the company reach this time. It can be seen that it is not so easy for them to offer benefit without learning this and becoming familiar with the history of the company. We are following the developments in the sector regarding this matter closely. There is an extraordinary executive turnover. Every other day an employee or a group is transferred from one point to another. So, what is the result? Neither the transferring party nor the transferred party is satisfied with the situation! Hence, sufficient professional experience, discipline, skill and knowledge is not obtained. Above all, professional credibility is not achieved.

What is the reason for not attempting to gain knowledge, skill and experience in a position by focusing on it and to become an authority in that professional on international basis? On the other hand, workplaces that are of question are the most prestigious companies of our country, that every youngster is willing to become an employee of. It’s extremely difficult to understand!

Number of factories has increased highly in the last twenty years and despite the fact that most of them were established for export purposes they couldn’t find place on the graphic. What I saw and was proud of in international cement conferences and seminars that I attended to nearly twenty years ago was the great respect shown to our sector representatives and royal hospitality that was offered. Foreigners would get in the queue to meet with cement sector representatives. The situation was just the opposite in coal conferences I participated in during those tim es.

I guess the young people were in complacency thinking that everything would stay the same! They just consumed what was available without striving to deserve the heritage of their elders without questioning and trying to understand the source of this respect. The ones which were our largest markets and customers with the highest volumes once upon a time meanwhile became our strongest competitors. However, there are very bright young people in the sector that have graduated from very good schools and competent in multiple foreign languages. These young people were expected to escalate the works and positions created by their elders to a higher point, to establish new markets and new contacts, to contribute in production of new and different technological products in the available markets. But, is there anyone who has an attempt in this respect? I don’t know. I have not heard about someone if there is any. In conclusion, we are not developed yet as a country. There still a lot to do. It has been 33 years upon graduating from the university. I am retired but I still study, research and strive to implement. As I have no financial concerns at my age…
