Medcem Cement, a subsidiary of Eren Holding, announced that it will make a new investment that will increase the capacity of its existing factory in Mersin from 3.5 million tons of clinker production to 6.5 million tons per year. With an investment of 210 million USD, Medcem Cement will be among the cement producers with the largest production line in the world.
With the new investment that will provide a capacity increase of approximately 90%, Medcem Cement will be among the manufacturers with the largest cement factory in the world. Medcem Cement, which has completed all kinds of legal permission processes for the investment and agreed with German companies for the purchase of the necessary main equipment, has actively started its production activities. On the other hand, construction works at the factory site will be accelerated. Medcem Cement, which will focus on construction works at the beginning of August 2021, will complete its works to be carried out on the axis of its 210 million dollar investment in 20 months and will start production on the new production line in the first quarter of 2023.
Employment will increase by 30 percent
It is stated that there will be a minimum 30% employment increase in the number of direct employees with the employment to be made with the new investment in the Medcem Cement factory, where 900 people are currently employed together with the subcontractors. Making a statement about the investment plan, Medcem Cement General Manager Murat Kahya said: “As a company, our investment plans and studies that we intend to start in the short term continue at full speed. Even though we are a young company, we are one of the most important players in the sector. and Europe on a single line. With our 210 million USD investment, we will increase the capacity of our factory in Mersin by approximately 90%. With our new investment, we will become one of the largest cement producers in the world and the largest facility and exporter of our country. We want to become the number one ‘Turkish cement brand” in global market.”
New terminal plan in the United States
Medcem Cement, which has grinding facilities in Cameroon and Tunisia and terminals in Russia and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, will soon open a new terminal in the United States, which is an important market. Medcem Cement, which has started research studies on terminal investment in the USA, will conclude its negotiations on the new terminal in the near future.
